Guinea Woman is an exploration of the connection between woman and nature, and of our universal connection as women. It is an invitation to find yourself reflected in a momentary expression.
Guinea is a country in West Africa, named for its strong and stunning women. Life in Guinea is made beautiful by the tireless hands of generations of women.
I use African fabric imagery in these collages, because fabric is a vibrant and multidimensional necessity to the Guinea Woman. African fabric wipes away children’s tears or sweat from a brow, carries yam peelings to the compost pile, straps a new baby to a woman’s lower back, creates shade from the blazing sun, and is carefully bundled and placed on her head to comfort the weight of a bucket of water.
I invite you to relate in your own way to the women of Guinea.
